The renovation of a dilapidated 1970’s house in South Gippsland. A new owner wished to see a new life, to combat the blackberries and the hubris. Rather than knock it down the decision was made to retain the personal connection to the site and its previous owner, a recluse.

For a single man, a great deal of cattle, the chooks and a pig this house has become a personal exercise for the client to embrace family, heritage and the power of daylight.

The first stage embraced the impact of the morning light and as the day proceeds it bounces off watery surfaces or over the hills and under the arches.

The colour of the sky, the intensity of the stars are all powerful and desired states.

A walk into town with the pig makes him recognisable!
